The KKK has been using candy as a recruitment tool.
Townspeople around the nation say they’re finding little bags of candy with propaganda fliers thrown on their front lawns, courtesy of the Ku Klux Klan.
The fliers are stuffed into plastic bags along with peppermint candies and Tootsie Rolls, the Daily Beast reported. Included is the phone number for the Loyal White Knights of the KKK.
So far, the packages have been reported in California, Kansas, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.
Local law enforcement officials are responding by stepping up alerts.
“Whether it was a joke or from an organization doesn’t matter to me,” said Sheriff Eric Levett, from Conyers, Georgia, about his department’s recent collection of 80 or so of the fliers. “The fact that it was done during this time is ignorant and cowardly.”
The findings come just days after a mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, left nine black church members dead. The suspected killer, Dylann Roof, said he was trying to spark a race riot.
Meanwhile, in Pryor Creek, Oklahoma, law enforcement reported the discovery of fliers warning of the same “black-on-white” violence that sparked the church shooter, the Daily Beast reported.
