With many Democratic voters feeling cheated, the party appears to be bearing some of the same sort of fractures that weakened the GOP establishment in 2008. And that's probably bad news for Hillary Clinton.
Party unity hasn't exactly been easy to find as the DNC kicked off this week and news interviews of attendees at the event are revealing that there's a healthy undercurrent of anti-Clinton sentiment running through the party.
Like this guy, a convention delegate, who revealed in an interview with ABC reporter Jonathan Karl that he doesn't even plan to vote for Clinton in November:
“You are a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and you are not going to be voting for Hillary Clinton. Why?” a surprised Karl asked the young man.
“Well, it's really just as simple as I feel as if she hasn't been honest with us, and the fact of the matter is, she said for over a year there [was] no classified information sent or received on her private email server, and the FBI said that's not true,” the delegate replied.
“She wouldn't even call it an investigation. She called it a security review,” he continued. “If she's not even going to be honest about the nature of that investigation, what else can we expect? I have no love for [Donald] Trump, but I also have no love for Hillary.”
Some at the convention are going even further, saying disgruntled Democratic voters should actively work to sabotage Clinton during the general election.
In an interview with Fox, Bernie Sanders supporter Eileen Cook said: “The election [Democrat primary] was cheated, it was rigged from the beginning we knew it. I'm going to wait to see where I think my vote will most hurt Hillary. I might even vote Trump. I've been a Democrat all my life. I'm 60 years old and it'd be the first time I've ever cast a vote for a Republican, but if it'll keep Hillary out of office, I'll vote Trump.”
