Rep. John Lewis, left, leads House Democrats in a sit-in to demand gun-control votes.
House Democrats who spent the lead-up to their two-week Independence Day congressional break engaging in pro-gun control sit-ins on the floors of the U.S. Capitol returned to work Tuesday and called for more disruptions.
As Fox News reported, the Congressional Black Caucus sent out a memo asking group members “to be as disruptive … as possible” during House discussions, and press Speaker Paul Ryan to bring gun-control measures to the full floor for debate and vote.
Specifically, the memo calls on CBC members to give several speeches on guns and to hold up “a printed piece of paper with an image of a constituent killed by a firearm” whenever the House considers legislation not tied to gun control, Fox News reported.
It was just a few days ago Democrats, led by civil-rights activist Rep. John Lewis, staged a sit-in on the House floor to press Republicans to hold votes on gun control amendments that would tighten background checks and prevent those on “no fly” lists from buying weapons. As WND previously reported, Republicans grew weary of the tactic, which they saw as a major and unnecessary legislative disruption.
Rep. Steve King of Iowa at one point tweeted out a message that said: “I've had it with the gun grabbing Democrats and their sit-in anti 2nd Amendment jihad. I'm going to go home and buy a new gun.”
Ryan, who vowed during the sit-in to look into punitive measures against the participating Democrats, reacted similarly to this new gun-control crusade.
According to Fox News, the speaker said he's spoken with the House Sergeant at Arms Office and the Office of the Parliamentarian and won't “tolerate” further activist disruptions from fellow congressional members.
