U.S. officials called out the fighter jets to escort an Air France plane to the ground Monday after it was learned the craft was under a chemical weapons watch.

Air France Flight 22, exiting Charles De Gaulle Airport on route to New York’s Kennedy Airport, was escorted by the fighter jets after its pilot failed to respond to U.S. government calls for information, WBAC-TV reported, citing a source. The source said the Air France plane was flying with a “possible chemical weapons threat on board,” the New York Daily News said.

The plane was escorted to a secure area at Kennedy for a search. The news outlets reported the search was precautionary and no real threat was suspected.
